All About That Bass

Hey Everyone!

I spent a couple hours this evening winding the Hanks of yarn I had sitting. I will wind up the last two I ordered, when they arrive.

In the Hanks of yarn that I wound up, was the “make it pink, make it blue” hank from Long Dog Fiber. While it is based off of Sleeping Beauty, once it was would it totally made me think of the the Color Scheme from the Music video of Meghan Trainor’s “All About that Bass”.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 5 years since that song came out, and was quite popular that summer.

I am still trying to comprehend how Tomorrow is October 1st already. September just flew by.

Friday evening, I finished up the pair of socks I have been working on for a while. This particular pair took me three weeks to complete, and I was ready to move on. I had Second Sock Syndrome bad with this pair. I used the Plum Bustle colorway, on the Fortitude yarn base from Forbidden Fiber Company.

Now that I finished up this pair of socks, I am starting in on some of the autumn colored Yarns that I had ordered. I started with the Heirloom Pumpkin yarn, that I had been eyeing for about a year, but was sold out by the time I had discovered the company that I had ordered it from this year. I have three more pairs of Halloween & Autumnal socks, besides the pair I am working on, that I want to get done by thanksgiving, then I would like to get the two Hanks of Christmas colored yarn knit up. We’ll see how that works out with work, especially since I am going into the busiest time of the year, with the holiday season starting up in a couple of weeks.

So. Much. Yarn.

Hey Everyone!

When I was ordering sock yarn at the beginning of the month, I knew I was ordering “a lot”, but I didn’t think / realize how much yarn it really was until it really started showing up.

All I can say is, oh my goodness I ordered a lot of sock yarn, and it’s not even all here yet. I still have one more order that I am waiting on. It’s mind blowing, for me, anyway, how much I actually ordered.

I have plenty of sock yarn to keep me busy for quite a while.

I had another couple of orders show up yesterday and today.

As you may be able to tell, I have a thing for blues, greys, and neutrals. Grey has to be my favorite.

I am waiting until my last package of yarn arrives, before I wind up the latest batch of Hanks of yarn I need to wind. I haven’t bothered to dig out my yarn swift and ball winder since my big order or Forbidden Fiber Company yarn arrived.

I will definitely be knitting pretty socks for quite a while. I am definitely alright with that.

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers

Hey Everyone!

I have recently been on a bit of a yarn ordering binge. While most of what I have ordered is autumnal and Christmas colored yarn, not all of it is autumnal and Christmas colored.

On Wednesday, the last of the fall collection Yarns I had ordered from Forbidden Fiber Company arrived, and I got it wound as well that afternoon. I had ordered this yarn, mainly because I haven’t ordered a hank of Gluttony Sock yarn, until this point. I am trying to work as many of the different Fingering weight Yarns from Forbidden Fiber Company as I can. This particular colorway is: Campfire.

The wound cake of Campfire actually kinda reminds me of S’mores.

Today, I had a couple more orders arrive. One being the last of my orders from Forbidden Fiber Company. Tuesday was world suicide prevention day, so, for all the Neil Diamond Collection Yarns ordered on the day, the owner of Forbidden Fiber Company was donating to a suicide prevention organization. So, I had ordered a hank of “you don’t bring me flowers”. This colorway is on the honor base, which is not one of the common bases for their colorways. The honor yarn Base is 50% superwash merino and 50% Silk.

I am always out trying to find different sock yarn bases to try that have different fiber makeups, that are not purely wool / merino / nylon in their fiber makeups. So far, of the ones I have actually worked with, Babel (which is 10% Yak Fiber) is my favorite.

My order from Long Dog Yarn, arrived today as well.

The grey is Charcoal (though I thought it was called Coal Miner on the website) on the sock base, the teal is called, Dream Weaver, on the bounce sock Base. Last but not least, on the right is the colorway: “make it pink, make it blue” on the bounce sock base. This colorway is part of the Disney inspired Collection, and based on Sleeping Beauty, where the fairy godmothers keep changing Princess Aurora’s / Briar Rose’s dress from pink to blue and back again, when she is dancing with the prince around the end of the film.

The last of the sock yarn I ordered should be coming in, in a couple of weeks. Since I have a fair amount of autumn yarn wound at this point, I am going to hold off on winding what came today, until the rest of my yarn arrives, and just wind it up in one crazy winding session.

Now that Autumn is here, knitting cozy socks and accessories is going to be my main focus besides work.

Getting ready to Knit Through Winter!

Hey Everyone!

Over the weekend, after I had finished up the Victoria’s Memory Socks, I cast on the first sock I am knitting up out of the Plum Bustle colorway yarn.

Today, the first order of more sock yarn that I had ordered arrived. It is the first of two I had ordered from Forbidden Fiber Company. I realized that I hadn’t had a hank of Gluttony Sock Yarn in my order, so I ordered an additional autumn colored yarn on the gluttony base.

This is the last Steampunk Collection yarn I plan on ordering;

The colorway is: Aquatic Sprite

The yarn base is: Fortitude

These two are from the neutrals Collection:

The colorway of the yarn on the left is: Earl Grey

The colorway of the yarn on the right is: London Fog

Both of these colors I ordered on the Babel yarn base.

The autumn colors that came in this order includes (from L to R): Heirloom Pumpkin, Reclaimed Wood, Scarecrow, Cozy Evening and Autumn is Coming.

Heirloom Pumpkin, Reclaimed Wood, and Cozy Evening are all on the Fortitude Base. Autumn is Coming is on the Pride Base.

Lastly, I had ordered two Hanks of Christmas Sock Yarn. Both Hanks are of the Pride yarn base, and the two colorways are: Joy to the World and Silent Night.

At some point this week, I am going to have to get them wound up into cakes? (If that is the right terminology), I always just call them balls.

This is the bulk of the sock yarn I have ordered. The rest will be arriving in the near enough future. I also ordered a little bit of yarn for hats.

It all started because I only have one pair each of Christmas and Halloween socks. While all the yarn is an up front investment. I figured now would be a great time, while I could. I am also looking towards the future, and where I see myself in five and ten years, is somewhere, where quality hand knit socks are more than just cute accessories, and will be all to functional and practical.

They Won’t Be Around Forever

Hey Everyone!

I am back, with another finished project post! This evening, I finished up the pair of Victoria’s Memory socks that I have been working on for a couple weeks now. I am loving how they turned out. I love the colors, and everything!

The yarn based I had ordered this particular colorway on, was the Babel yarn base. The fiber content / makeup of this particular yarn base is 70% superwash merino, 20% Nylon and 10% Yak. It is so soft, yet sturdy.

So, this week I may have gone a little crazy on ordering more sock yarn. Most of it is Autumnal colored yarn, with a couple Hanks of Christmas yarn, and just some pretty yarn. I am going to be busy for a while, which is going to be good. I am excited to be sharing them all with you! One of the autumn colors I ordered, I have been wanting since last year. One of the Hanks I ordered is part of the Steampunk Collection, so I will add it to the other two I still have left to knit up.

This week, I came to the realization that the Pacific Northwest, is home. At the same time, I know staying in the Portland metro area isn’t for me. That is part of why I have been stocking up on sock yarn now, while I am in the city, and still close to the shipping hubs. I feel like shipping may be a bit quicker and slightly cheaper because I am currently in the city, since it doesn’t have to come into the city then trucked out to a smaller community (especially if it involves having to go over the mountains in winter time). It also gives me a jump start on these socks, while I am still looking for work opportunities, someplace I would prefer to live. The beach is my preferred location, but I am still seeking God’s will and direction in where he would have me move.

Autumn is finally here, and I am so excited! Our autumn set was set up earlier this week at work. I love that we finally are able to have it available, as well as the fact that the weather is finally starting to turn. Some of the leaves started turning a while ago, but are increasingly turning. I love it, and love that my favorite season is here. I love the colors, the cooler temperatures, the smells.

There will come a time, when I can wear cute clothes more often, and in the colder months, I can pair my good clothes with the socks I have made and will made, and boots and rock them autumn to spring. Two of the areas of my top three places I would love to live, that are still close enough to drive here, to see my parents (since they won’t live forever), get snow in the winter. One of the things I realized here recently, is that while I am yearning for living in a small town life, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I don’t want to live more than 7.5 – 8 hours away (driving), and not outside of the PNW (well, Oregon, Washington and Idaho anyway).

Knitting through the thick of it

Hey Everyone!

The past few days I have been working hard to make progress on the second sock I am working on. Beings that I don’t know how to knit two at once (and many of Hanks of yarn would have to be split to do that). I knit one sock at a time.

Yesterday I knit the heel flap, turned the heel, picked up the sides of the heel flap and began the gusset.

Today, I finished the gusset, and I am making headway on the foot of the sock.

Over the weekend, I have also been watching the first episode of three different shows to see if they were something that I could get into and watch more of while I knit. All three of them turned out to be busts for me, and I am still on the lookout for new (to me) shows that I actually like and I am hooked in just one episode. I am the kind of person who knits while watching tv or listening to music.

Part of why I love knitting so much, is the fact that it is tangible, and when things go wrong, 99% of the time it is my fault, and if production slows down, that is totally my fault. There are definitely times when I think life was and is easier without as much technology. I am definitely becoming more old fashioned in my “old age”.

I am looking forward to being able to order more yarn this month to share with you all, I am definitely excited for all the fall colors and stuff that are out.
