Road to Rhinebeck 2022 Socks

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday afternoon I finished up my pair of “Road to Rhinebeck 2022” socks, two days after Rhinebeck ended, not that I got to go anyway.

This was the second year I ordered the “Road to Rhinebeck” sock set from Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm.

The finished product

The main colorway is “Road to Rhinebeck 2022” and the accent colorway was called “All the Wine”. They came as a set and are no longer available to order. The yarn base is the Coquette base.

The Coquette base my favorite yarn base to order colorways on from Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm. I like this base because it is a 3 ply fingering weight so it knits up the thickest, cosiest socks without being too thick.

This morning, just before sitting down to write this post, I washed up this pair of socks as well as the pair of Crackling Fire socks I finished recently. I used the Wool and Cashmere Shampoo by The Laundress New York to wash these socks. The scent is called Cedar, but I don’t know exactly how cedar specific it is, but it has an amazing woodsy scent to it that I love. I love this wash for new socks. For socks I have worn and need to wash I prefer using the original Kookaburra wash that has and smells like tea tree oil or Outback Gold wool wash that also has tea tree oil. I prefer either of these two for socks I have worn because Tea Tree Oil is an antiseptic / anti bacterial / anti fungal properties to help kill any funk that might be in my socks and want to grow and cause problems for my feet.

Monday evening, I hadn’t really felt like finishing up the Road to Rhinebeck socks so I cast on the first of many Christmas socks. I decided to start with the yarn called “little drummer boy” it is the darkest of all then Christmas yarn I recently ordered, so I decided I would tackle it first before our weather and days get much darker and dreamer, leaving the brighter colorways to work as the days get even shorter and rainy.

With the socks I just cast on, I went back to my good ole’ trusty wooden needles that I prefer. I definitely do not like metal needles.

What’s on My Needles Wednesday

Hey Everyone!

It’s been a while since I have written a “What’s on my Needles Wednesday” post. It has also been far too long since I posted regularly here.

Today was one of those days where I was able to spend the entire day knitting and making significant progress on my current pair of socks.

I had started this sock before I finished my last pair. Though most of the progress I have made has been since I finished that pair.

I am currently working on this year’s “Road to Rhinebeck” sock set from Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm. This colorway is on the Coquette yarn base.

The Coquette yarn base happens to be my favorite from Bumblebee Acres. It’s thick for a fingering weight, making it warm and cozy. It makes the perfect cold weather socks.

Crackling Fire Socks

Hey Everyone!

This has been the year of life being insanely busy.

I finally finished the pair of crackling fire socks I have been working on for a while now. I finished the first sock about three weeks ago. I finally finished up the second sock today.

The yarn is one I had ordered from Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm a year or two ago. The yarn base is the bubble sock base. The colorway is “Crackling Fire”.

This year has been one of those years where I feel like I am going a mile a minute, and like I am just in the passenger seat along for the ride so to speak.

The rest of this year and going into next year I am really trying to slow down and live a simpler life. I am wanting to get more socks made and projects done. I also want to find more crafters who are also content creaters before Rhinebeck next year so I have a better idea of who’s who in the community.

I am also trying to work on me, and getting back into consistent content creation myself. Working graveyard full time these past 14 months and moving almost a year ago has really taken a lot out of me, and away from the things I love. I am still trying to find the balance and routine of how it goes. I am definitely hoping that as things continue to settle in, and possibly changing jobs out of freight, I can get back to doing what I love. Which really is all things yarn and knitting related.

Summer Days and Summer Socks

Hey Everyone!

What a week. I worked only two nights last week, and two off so I could go to the beach with my family. It was a good day.

Beings that I had two extra nights off than I regularly do, I had extra time to work on my knitting. I am currently working on my beach bunny socks, which is the Hedgehog Fibres yarn I had picked up at For Yarns Sake over in Beaverton a little while back.

I finished up my first sock of the pair Tuesday night, and started the second sock.

Part of what helped me get through this first sock so quick besides having a couple nights off was also the fact that I binge watched the 4th season of Virgin River while I was working on it.

It’s also been pretty hot the past few days, seeing upper 90’s and even low 100’s in the Willamette Valley. So I have also been biding my time in the air conditioned house trying to keep cool.

I had pre-ordered the Long Dog Yarn Summer 2022 Sock Set and project bag. I think the sock set is actually called “She sells seashells” or something similar. When I had seen it, I couldn’t resist it. I love the beach (obviously) and beachy themed stuff. I love the color of turquoise that the mini hank is for the heels and toes. I am definitely excited to work up this yarn too.

The North and Central Oregon Coast have definitely made the short list of where I would love to live. While there are other places on that list that I am open to living should I be able to find a good job that has health insurance, the coast is just at the top.

How is it November already?

Hey Everyone!

I totally meant to write this post a couple days ago, but my weekend got away from me.

I had received the two yarns orders, that I had ordered in the mail earlier this week. One was from Deep Dyed Yarn, the other from SavvySkeins.

I got them wound up Wednesday morning, and I love how they look wound up into cakes.

I am definitely excited to get these knit up. Most of these will be knit up after the first of the year, since life is pretty busy right now with work and everything else going on.

Wednesday morning I also made my mom’s birthday pie. Her birthday is always the week of, or even on Thanksgiving, so I started making her, her favorite pie the first week of the month so she can enjoy it and pumpkin pie. Then I usually get her something else for her actual birthday.

A Yarny Fall Day

Hey Everyone!

I have definitely been enjoying my day off.

I have been working on my current sock throughout the day.

While it didn’t get super warm today, the sun was out today and made it feel warmer today than it was. So I decided to was the socks I had finished up, and put them on the drying rack.

The hank of yarn I had ordered from Deep Dyed Yarns, which had been recommended to me by a reader, arrived today. So I got it wound up.

I definitely love the colors here, and I am excited to knit these up into socks. This colorway was my favorite of the ones available.

After working 5 days in a row last week, and only having two nights / one full day off, it is nice to be back to my normal schedule. It has certainly been nice to be able to knit the past couple of days as well. I have certainly missed it.

Finally Getting Some Knitting Done

Hey Everyone!

It has been far too long since I have been able to post about knitting, then again it has been far too long since I have really been able to knit.

Life has been crazy busy since I started the full time job I am at now. I have been pulled in so many different directions, that Knitting dropped to a low priority. Other things like sleep were more important.

Knitting has become the reward for getting through another week of work.

The sock I am working on has been sitting a lot the past few weeks, and getting through the cuff seemed to take forever. I finally finished the cuff, knit the heel, turned the heel and got the gussets done so far this weekend.

Knitting

Duchess

Hey Everyone!

The past few days have felt like they have gone on forever. Work has definitely worn be out and it was a rough few days. I definitely have been glad to get home and back to my knitting.

Last night, I finished up the latest pair of socks I had been working on.

This latest pair of socks that I finished up, I knit up using Bumblebee Acres fiber farm’s coquette sock yarn in the colorway “Duchess”.

I have been wanting to work with this yarn for a while, and wanted a short break from working with the autumn colored yarn that I have.

Being able to come back home after work and knit definitely helps me to relax and wind down after a stressful day at work. It also how I enjoy spending my days off.

Celebrating 2 years at work

Hey Everyone!

Last week I celebrated my two year anniversary at work.

To celebrate, I went to my favorite tea shop, to pick up some more of my favorite tea.

I picked up a box of Portland Breakfast tea, as well as a cup of British Brunch tea to go.

Earlier last week, I was looking into the gluten free vegan bakery I used to go to, i knew it has closed at the beginning of the pandemic and everything was closing down. I was checking into see if it had reopened, to find out that it had permanently closed. So I went to google, and started googling gluten free dairy free bakeries in the area. I found one that is actually super close to home.

I had gotten a gluten free and dairy free red velvet cupcake. It was actually really good, and I will be going back to that bakery.

I am trying to celebrate the milestones and achievements as they come. Each milestone gets me one step closer to my long term goals.

Scarecrow Socks

Hey Everyone!

I finished these socks on Sunday, and am just now getting to posting about them, on Wednesday afternoon.

The colorway is Scarecrow, which is from the 2018 Fall Collection from Forbidden Fiber Company, and I got it on the Fortitude Yarn Base.

The smoke that we had from the wildfires has finally cleared, and we are experiencing our first autumn storm come in, so it is cooler, overcast and rainy. I love it.

Today, I am celebrating my 2 year workiversary at my current job. My 2 year mark is tomorrow, but since I am off tomorrow, and worked today (I was already out of the house anyway) and then got off early, I went and got tea, and a dairy free and gluten free cupcake to celebrate.

I stopped by my favorite tea shop for tea, but I am trying a new place for the cupcake, since the bakery I used to go to is now permanently closed.
