Snow Day Activities

Hey Everyone!

We started seeing snow fall Wednesday morning, though we really didn’t start seeing it stick until Wednesday evening.

With the roads being snow covered and the temperatures dropping below freezing I chose to stay home yesterday and today.

Yesterday my mom and I made cookies, and I have also been working on my current pair of vintage santa socks.

Vintage Santa

It’s been an incredibly busy month and it’s nice to have a couple extra down days to relax and allow my body to continue to adjust to not working nights. It’s been nice to actually put some time into my knitting and see progress take place over a shorter amount of time and see more socks take shape.

Now that I am getting back into a more regular schedule where I can knit more and get more done, and I do have a little more energy to do the things I enjoy doing.

Strawberry Fields

Hey Everyone!

Today I finished up the pair of Strawberry Fields Socks.

The yarn is one from my stash. The colorway is on Coquette yarn base from Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm.

This colorway is from a spring collection from a few years ago. When I cast it on, I was in the mood for something springy.

I have been off work this past week to take care of my health. Knitting has been part of my day as I try to recover.

Sea Dragon

Hey Everyone!

It’s been a bit since I have posted her, and even longer it seems since I finished a pair of socks.

Knitting has definitely slowed down since I started this job I am at. It’s OK for the time being since I do need to work.

I finally finished up a pair I had started back in November. This pair was knit up out of yarn from a small yarn dyer, who I found out about from one of you. The yarn shop is called Deep Dyed Yarn. I had ordered several hanks from her shop in two different yarn bases. The yarn base for this particular pair is the Figment yarn base, and I used the colorway “Sea Dragon”. I love how it turned out.

Sock yarn has definitely become one of my things. I love looking at it. All the different color combinations that people come up with is incredible. I love working with it, and feel it as I am working it up.

I have been told that I have enough socks and sock yarn, but really, can you ever have enough?

I know that the city life is not my calling and I am working hard now to get out of here, and live a life where I am outside more, and still living in a place that rains, or at least overcast, grey & misty / drizzling for nine months out of the year, where having good quality wool socks are a must.

Snowed In

Hey Everyone!

The past couple of days have been crazy. We have been getting snow here in the Portland Metro area, down on the valley floor.

Since I work nights, and it seems to like to snow and cover the roads right at the times when I have to make a decision of do I go or Call Out, I end up calling out and staying home and safe.

That also means, more knitting has been getting done.

I am currently working on my pair of sea monster socks with yarn from deep dyed yarns. This sock, is the second sock in the pair. I got the first sock finished up last week.

As much as I love being home, Knitting, I would love to be getting back to work and back to earning money. Until this snow storm I hadn’t missed a shift in the five months I have been at this job. I really hate missing work when I am supposed to be there and it is harder to relax knowing I am supposed to be at work.

Well, at least we still have power and heat this time around. Things could be way worse.

Some Yarns are Horrible to work with

Hey Everyone!

If you are unfamiliar with this pair of socks:

I highly suggest you go back to my posts about these socks from this part March & April (2017), that I wrote while I was working with the Viking of Norway Nordlys sock yarn. At the time I thought this specific yarn was the yarn from hell, turns out that it’s not the only one.

I have come to find out that for me, superwash Wool is the type of yarn I absolutely cannot stand.

The current superwash wool I am working with at present is just as bad as the Nordlys yarn.

I am currently working with the Chroma Fingering yarn from KnitPicks. I hadn’t put two and two together until I had gone to cast on the pair of socks I just started a couple nights ago, and was running into the exact same issues as I had run into with the Nordlys yarn. Turns out the Nordlys yarn was 75% superwash merino / 25% Nylon and the Chroma Fingering is 70% superwash merino / 30% Nylon. So you get the picture, they are very similar in content, and both are not wanting to knit up as well as they should.

The end product is always nice, soft and warm, but the knitting up the yarn part is the nightmare. I will not be purchasing Chroma Fingering yarn again in the future.
